Tell me a little about yourself and why you are doing this…

Standard

As someone who demands to have full control of her life, being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 30 was a bit devastating.  The first thought that goes through someone’s mind is: I am a young mom with two beautiful (3 years and 9 months) children, who will not be able to take care of them from a wheelchair.  The doctors did not help much either, the first one I saw said that I need to be placed on Rebif, a drug with many side effects and one of which is being sick in bed with flu-like symptoms.  Are you nuts?!  Did you not notice that I have a nine-month-old daughter who needs me to be well right now?  I went for a second opinion, only to find that there is a whole slew of drugs to pick from.  Lets see, do I want to inject myself every day in a large muscle which will be very painful, or do I inject myself just once every three days and lay in bed all day the next day?  Hmmm….

I did my due diligence and found a book on how to heal MS naturally.  The book was written by a woman who was struck down with MS and discovered that with nutrition, exercise and making peace with god, she was able to fully recover from her disease (without any help from a doctor).  Since my diagnosis three years ago, I only had one relapse when I took a round of very strong antibiotics to kill a sinus infection (amongst everything else in my body).  I was also able to get off of allergy medication, which I took every day.  All this was due to watching what I ate, supplementation, exercise (yoga and Pilates) and stress management.  My goal is to help others conquer their disease and take full control of their body back.  Yes, it is your body and you have full control on how it should be treated.  I’m not so sure people realize that when they go to a doctor, or a person that “practices medicine”, that they do not have to do exactly what the doctor says.  If you feel that is not the right treatment, then let them know that you have selected an alternative treatment.  That is what I did and the doctor basically told me, “good luck”.

It’s not really the fault of the doctors, after all they are doing what they are trained to do.  Unfortunately, they are not trained very well in nutrition.  Their programs at school are heavily funded by drug companies, so the emphasis is always on treating the patient with medication.  If you have an emergency situation, like you were involved in a car accident and your arm is falling off, then doctors are great!  For treating disease, not so great.

So that is why I decided to start this blog.  I want to educate and share things that I have researched and read.  I am hoping to touch many lives in letting them know that there is another way to get well and live a full, productive life, the way it should be lived, not just to “survive”.

Happy Reading!
